Education
Recently, through forums in Straits Times,I realised that there have been grumblings about problems faced by A Level applicants getting into local universities.Parents write in to voice out their views on entry to universities. Some of them feel that the admission to universities for foreigners ,10% poly graduate as well as 10 % discretionary admission have deprived the chances of A Level applicants, who obtained good grades, but were not offered any course of their choice through the application process.
Some of the A Level applicants who obtained good grades,at the same time, were offered the course to do in one of the universities, albeit the course is not the course of their choice.I would say that they should be delighted that they have been offered a course to do in the university as I have heard reports of average scorers not able to get into the university. The competition is getting tougher. All this tells us that passing the exams alone is not enough;what matters most;is none other than getting optimal results.
